After
reading the book "This is Lean", written in Swedish and translated to
English, I've made the decision to write my first entry in English. It's a
challenge, as you can understand, but I'll do my best. And I’m sorry for my
mistakes.
In spite of
LEAN is a very, very famous concept and there are a lot of written treatments
about it, for my was absolutely unknown, and this is, in part, why I'm
positively surprised and impressed with this learn.
Maybe,
there are, people like me that of course know and think a lot about efficiency
in the organizations but never read about LEAN, in this case I recommend they
to read this book.
In my
opinion, this book focusing the efficiency from a very interesting point of
view, with a progression through different aspects and always offering examples
and showing the concepts in an understandable way for the reader. It’s very
nice to read and then easy and amused, it tries to solve the efficiency
paradox, and ….
Summarizing
a lot, there are two messages that I must remark:
- Focusing on FLOW EFFICIENCY the results will
be better even from the RESOURCE EFFICIENCY point of view. Flow efficiency
means that the activities and the connections between different activities are
thought to minimize the time in which the flow units are not receiving value.
Resource efficiency, is focused on keeping the resources so occupied as
possible. It’s curious that after start to think a little on this way of work
and apply it on your daily tasks, the results improve quickly, we start to see
the light.
-
"JIDOKA" a Japanese concept, which means that everyone should has
total visibility for everyone of the objective and of the playfield. From the
point of view of companies, it remarks the necessity that everybody has the
whole vision about the aims and how the rest of the employees are working to
reach this purpose.
I recommend
this book to everybody, it helps to think of avoid wastes in the work environment
and by the way, to reach better results.
